Apple publishes updated AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max beta firmware.

For the AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Max, Apple has published a new beta firmware. It has version 5B5040c, but because Apple hasn’t given any information about it, it’s unknown what’s new.

Installing the updated beta firmware on your AirPods requires pairing them with an iPhone, connecting the iPhone to a Mac via a Lightning cable, and downloading it through Apple’s Developer Center. Then open the Mac’s Xcode 14 beta program, choose Settings > Developer from the menu, and choose the “Pre-Release Beta Firmware” toggle under the AirPods Testing subsection.

Remember that your iPhone should be running the most recent version of iOS 16 beta, and your Mac should be running the most current version of macOS Ventura beta since the OTA will be delivered within 24 hours once the pre-release testing option is activated. It’s also important to note that this update is intended for developers and could include flaws that negatively affect how users interact with it.

For those who aren’t a part of the beta program, Apple recently issued the first software update for the AirPods Pro 2. It features bug fixes and “other enhancements” and has version 5A377.
